My recent work seeks to create a dialogue about how Western society treats the universal and inevitable force of pain. In our fast-paced society, doctors too often seek to “cure” pain instead of investigating the root cause of the problem. This mentality directly harms those with chronic pain conditions, as well as those with underlying problems, by delaying diagnoses and creating a stigma about how those facing pain should function.
As someone who has suffered from a chronic pain condition for the past decade, I have seen first-hand the ways that my pain has been disparaged and questioned by multiple doctors and specialists. I draw from these experiences as well as my daily struggles in order to create paintings that evoke a physical representation of the experience of being in pain.
